TeamFight Tactics NA Esports

TFT is a great visual combination of cute and fierce.

Designing Riot Games' TFT NA Esports has been a delightful experience for me. I personally created the esports branding for the entire North American region, and working with the visuals has always been enjoyable. Since taking on the role of creative director for this project, we have made significant improvements in its structure and function. I can confidently say that I am proud not only of my own contributions but also of the many people who played a part in creating it.

I'd like to express my gratitude to the amazing team that supported me every step of the way <3:

  • Cole Vierra, who handled the broadcast integration, starting with Singular during the pandemic (which required a fully remote setup). We later shifted to Xpression and integrated third-party APIs, and Cole did an amazing job.

  • Chris Anema, responsible for all the stunning animations, including bumpers, stingers, background motions, and more. Chris worked wonders, whether using provided art or creating animations from scratch.

  • Special thanks to my designers who stepped in to help during certain broadcasts: Raul Ruiz Avila, Bradley Sovik, and Livi.

10 sets, 31 broadcasts, 3+ years and a whole of designing

How did I make a branding for a beginning and an unknown future?

At the beginning of each set, Riot provides assets such as tacticians, game set brand guidelines, and fonts (if changed). From there, I plan out each show, distributing the assets evenly to ensure that each set is represented without duplication of assets and styles. This approach extends to all additional content, including videos, etc.

Below, you'll find the announce flyers for the majority of the shows. I believe these flyers effectively showcase a great combination of characters, colors, background, and the general vibe for each broadcast.

Displayed: Set 9.5 Regional Finals

This marks the most recent and final broadcast worked on for TFT by myself and the rest of the team. The theme for this show was inspired by the region known as Bilgewater, a pirate and seafaring area.

This overlay appears incomplete in this static representation, as the majority of the work can only be fully appreciated during the live broadcast. Here is a mockup showcasing the in-game API integration designed to pull live game data. We then coded and customized the visuals to enhance the viewing experience.

Animation Bumpers

Bumpers are played at major intervals during the broadcast, primarily when transitioning from the 'starting soon' and 'be right back/L-Frame' screens. Chris Anema animated all of these.
