Legends of Runeterra NA Seasonals

Provided branding that was enhanced through talent and hard work.

Legends of Runeterra, developed by Riot Games, boasts some incredibly beautiful art, and I had the privilege of being entrusted to incorporate that art into the North American broadcasts for its competitive events.

As the creative director and designer for the LOR (Legends of Runeterra) Seasonals, it presented a unique challenge. Initially, branding and some assets were provided for the first broadcast we created, leading to a sense of lacking self-ownership. However, over time, both myself and Riot grew eager for something more dynamic to break the monotony. To address this, I took on the task of proposing upgrades to the package in both form and function, incorporating stunning animations created by Chris Anema under my direction. This effort resulted in a broadcast that was uniquely tailored to the North American audience.

Graphics Package

Chris Anema created the animations for the starting screens, which were added to the templated package to elevate and distinguish the NA broadcast from other regions. Leveraging the stunning art from Runeterra, I aimed to highlight it and bring the show to life. A point of pride for me was that the community believed these animations were officially created by Riot.

Beyond Pre-production

In addition to pre-production design work, I served as the main live designer. This role involved participating in the live production call with the team, creating assets on the spot for immediate use in the broadcast. One crucial asset I created was the champion cards (shown to the right), representing each deck a player uses. Each of the 32 players had three decks. The challenge was that these assets needed to be created on the day of the broadcast due to tournament requirements, which prohibited deck submissions until 15 minutes before the show started. This necessitated not only highly organized file formatting but also a deep knowledge of all regions and champions, as I had to assign them on the fly.
