“Bits & Pieces Put Together to Present a Semblance of a Whole”

Lawrence Weiner - Walker Art Center

Torrent was an esports organization housing professional teams in Rocket League, Apex Legends, and Halo, alongside a roster of streamers representing the brand.

The design concept for Torrent aimed to be an identity not defined by individuals but by the collective force pushing against authority. It embraced the idea of organized chaos, incorporating visuals heavily inspired by street and industrial styling.

Leading the creative creation for Torrent was one of my designers, Sam Gerstner, a highly talented individual, while I guided the overall vision as creative director.

Animation created by Paper Crowns with direction guidance by myself and others on the Torrent team.

The Campaign and Brand Update that Never Was

As a creative individual, it can be disheartening to witness our hard work not come to fruition, and this campaign holds that sentiment for me. Before Torrent came to an end, our team was passionately working on a new campaign, aligning with esports launch timelines and serving as a stepping stone for a soft brand upgrade.

The premise involved creating a world within the branding, set in a semi-dystopian city (which I envisioned calling Delta). In this city, all the IPs the organization was involved with would have some level of influence. For instance, Rocket League cars would rule the streets, the Halo crew would dominate the sky and space (complete with a space elevator in the pitch). The ideation and world-building continued for quite some time, but unfortunately, we were only able to create physical proof of Alluvion, our mech fighter (shown in the images above). Alluvion was intended to be a sort of Torrent mascot and the protector of the city. The goal was to create a rich world that seamlessly bled into all aspects of our brand and identity.

The images shown above are based precisely on my visual wants and direction.

In Game Rocket League Car

Torrent had a professional Rocket League team in the official league, RLCS, which afforded us the opportunity to have a car designed and implemented in the game. For that RLCS season, we had both a home kit and an away kit, represented by the two colors shown here.
